Thoughts

Today has been full of thoughts.

We'll begin with this quote, not sure who it's by but I heard it on My Big Fat Greek Wedding, and it so truly applys to my life.

"Don't let your past dictate who you are, but let it be part of who you will become."

I don't talk about this a lot, and probably still won't but I grew up LDS. Mormon for those who aren't sure what that means. I went to church with my family every Sunday for many many years. Something I don't talk about often either is why I stopped going. I had some struggles with some girls in my ward that were mean, ruthless, cruel to me at church. I felt as though church should have been where I felt safe not taunted. I got enough of that from school. That compounded with some other things, just made me stop. I still believe in most of the LDS teachings and the one thing that the church pushes that will aways remain true to me is FAMILY. Family will always be my priority and will always be what comes first to me. So being LDS was part of my past, and it will forever be with me and be part of who I am as a wife, as a mom, as a sister, as a daughter etc. I believe I'm a good person and I treat others the way I want to be treated and that's enough for me for now. Anyway, the reason I'm bringing this up now is because for the first time in a LONG time I went to church today. My dad received a very important calling in church, 2nd counselor to the bishop. So I wanted to go today while he was given that calling and support him in this because I know it's important to him. Charlie even came with me. It was so odd to bring him with me because I never thought he would go. And although it was strange to be back it felt as though I'd never left. I felt very peaceful there and it was nice. My dad got up and bore his testimony and made a really good point. He mentioned wanting to be the man my Grandpa was, and of course that made me cry. I've been thinking about and missing my Grandpa A LOT lately. I think it's because if this little one is a boy he will receive my Grandpa's name as his middle name. Then of course my dad had to go on an bring up how heroic Derek was when he saved Oliver's life, and again the water works began. So anyway, it was a great way to come back to church and just got me thinking a lot about it today. I really want my kids exposed to religion, whether it be Mormon or something else...just to give them the basic exposure to it. So yeah it's something to think about. =)

BTW, the main girl that was mean to me I recently found out some horrible things about her home life... which could be why she was so mean. So I hold no grudge towards her.

Today also marks a huge milestone in our life. Twelve years ago Charlie and I went on our first date to our Senior Prom. What a crazy twelve years it's been!

I took a picture of our prom picture since our scanner doesn't work, but you get the point. Look how young and little we are!! Who would have thought these two youngins would be were we are today!

One last thing, and this is just now happening. President Obama is on TV talking about how Osama Bin Laden the man behind the 9/11 attacks has been killed. This is a HUGE day for our country and will hopefully give some peace and closure to those who lost loved ones that tragic day. I'm getting chills watching the news report and and thinking about what this means to so many people!
